There are many things I can’t stand in this world of ours, rush hour drivers, fundamentalist Christians, condoms, but what I hate most is hypocrites. The holier than though know it alls, the weekend Christians that repent on Sunday and act like dicks the rest of the week, our corrupt political judicial system, republicans.Recently, self-appointed African American mouthpiece Jesse Jackson made a, to put it mildly, faux pa while appearing on The O’Reilly Factor. The Reverend was speaking about Barrack Obama during a break where he was recorded saying he “wants to cut his (Obama’s) nuts off.” If this wasn’t bad enough, the Reverend went on to use the dreaded “N” word. Now, there are many things that infuriate me about the dishonorable Reverend Jesse Jackson’s comments and my brain is buzzing like a swarm of angry bees so I will rant. First, Barrack Obama represents a milestone in American history. Whether he wins the presidential election or not, he represent s the, albeit slow, process this country is making. If you would have told me last year that an African American could win the Democratic nomination, I would have asked for a hit of whatever you’re smoking. The seemingly insurmountable mountain has been climbed and the country will never be the same. When a public advocate of African American rights such as the Reverend Jesse Jackson makes racist, outlandish statements everyone suffers. This is a prime example of why racism is still so prevalent in this country. Unfortunately, Jackson is nullifying the progress he, supposedly, has been working on his entire career. For a man who fights for racial equality to utter such an offensive, and violent, statement is unacceptable. People like Jackson will never be satisfied. Obama is just not black enough to satisfy him and we all know that Jackson considers himself Grand Pubba of all things African American. To continue our journey into hypocrisy, let’s focus on Jackson’s use of the “N” word. Unfortunately, this is a very common racial slur heard daily on the streets and on most hip hop albums. It is almost more commonplace now than it was during the slave years. That, to me, is astounding. The fact that this word has been assimilated and accepted among the African American community is unfathomable. I have never fully understood how a word that can provoke extreme anger and frustration while uttered by the wrong person, anyone not African American, can be used as a term of endearment among the race that so despises it. This is not progress. The Confederate flag is held up high as a symbol of racism and hatred. The word, and forgive my use, nigger is directly related to said flag. It was a word used to denigrate an entire race by degenerate racists in a time best forgotten. African Americans have chosen to adopt a word that symbolized everything wrong with this country. Their ancestors would be disgusted to hear the widespread use of this negative word. The Reverend Jesse Jackson has made no bones about his fight to end the use of this word by the entire population. He has stated that he finds it just as offensive when spoken by the African American community as he does when spoken by everyone not in that category. For him to use this word, whether he knew he was being recorded or not, exposes his extremely hypocritical nature. Jackson displayed who he really is to the world. Like most blowhards that came before him, his private actions do not reflect his public words. While I will always be pigeon holed as just another white man who doesn’t understand why it is acceptable for African Americans to use this word amongst themselves, I assert that those who find it acceptable to call themselves this are ignorant of the struggles of their ancestors. Some will agree with what I said while others will file me in the idiot cabinet but one thing remains. If you are as public a figure as the Reverend Jesse Jackson is you are held to a higher standard than us average Joes. His negative comments are poison to everyone, in the same manner as someone like Jerry Falwell. The last time I checked, it was not acceptable to talk about cutting anyone’s balls off while on a national news show. The Reverend Jesse Jackson has made my asshole list, again. Congratulations douche bag, I loathe you more than I already do, and that’s saying something.
